THE PRESIDENT EMERITUS EUGENE EDWARDS SCHOLARSHIP.

James Luke Mervin
James Luke Mervin is the 2021- 2022 Recipient of the President Emeritus Eugene Edwards Scholarship. The foundation honors the legacy of Eugene Edwards through a selective technical school scholarship program that advances higher education for academic and community service-driven students.
It awards graduating seniors from Henry County Schools a scholarship to assist with furthering their post-secondary education to technical school. The seniors who are awarded this scholarship exhibit academic talent, leadership skills, commitment to community service, and exceptional work ethic. These are the characteristics the late Eugene Edwards embodied to uplift the lives of the people and the youth he encountered.
James is presently attending Southern Crescent Technical College. This student’s motto is “Weakness is not a word in my vocabulary

Ashton Peoples
In 2020, Ashton Peoples was the first graduating high school senior to receive the President Emeritus Eugene Edwards Presidential Scholarship. He graduated Summa Cum Laude and Class Salutatorian from Eagles Landing High School on June 24, 2020. Ashton is pursuing a career in medicine and has completed the Career Pathway in Healthcare, Neuroscience Institute Boot Camp, the Genetics, Bioinformatics, and the Biomedical Research Program at the National Institutes of Health. Ashton was accepted at five Ivy League Colleges, Emory University, Georgia Tech, UGA Honors Program, Duke, Vanderbilt, 8 Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and three medical schools via combined Bachelor of Science and Medical Degree (BS/MD) Programs. He will attend Brown University’s BS/MD Program this fall 2020. He’s been accepted at the Warren Alpert Medical School and plans to attend after completing his undergraduate studies. Ashton is also the recipient of the U.S. Presidential Gold Volunteer Service Award. He has completed the Youth Leadership Henry Emerging Leaders Program, Georgia Aquarium Environmental Leaders Program was a member of the Atlanta Youth Action Council, and was selected as a Ron Brown Captain in the National Leaders Network Program.
